For it is God who works in you both to will and to do for His good pleasure. Philippians 2:13(NKJV) What does the word capacity mean? I took the time to look up the definition according to the dictionary. Capacity is the maximum amount that something can contain or the amount that something can produce. Words that are similar or have some similar meaning are magnitude, proportions, space, extent, and range. When I meditate on the world’s definition, I can’t help to think about the spiritual correlation regarding capacity. How do we know when we have reached our capacity in a circumstance, or situation? What are the signs to indicate that capacity has been reached? When capacity is reached, what are the next steps? How do we grow our capacity to contain or produce more? So, let's look at this word capacity from a spiritual perspective. Let’s use ounces, pints, liters, gallons where would you rate your capacity spiritually? If God told you to go to an ocean, and full only to your capacity, the vastness of His greatness. What would be your capacity? This metaphor was used in a sermon I heard some years ago from Dr. Tony Evans. It made me think how much capacity has God created in me to fill up with His greatness? How much of the capacity that God has created in us is being used for God? Because God is almighty and powerful He can use us despite ourselves. Roman 8: 28 (NIV) states “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.” Even the things that we can’t imagine Him using He will for His purpose. So, never forget that... God who works in you both to will and to do for His good pleasure. Be Encouraged, Shaneen |
